This is probably one of the most important posts that you will find on this site. All of us dream of becoming a success overnight. In the 'Real World' that just doesn't happen. I have had several inquiries about this site (BandArrangers). I think they were hoping that the whole world got to see and hear their work. And after they didn't see anything in a week. They decided to move on. A good thing to do is to make sure that a lot of people know about your work. Tell others about the site. BandArrangers is an excellent venue to showcase your talent. The potential to find work is there.
There are directors and people out there who are seeking custom arrangements, compositions, drill design and guard work. It helps when people promote the site by word of mouth or by linking to this site. I have done some advertising on the web. And the result has been a steady flow of visitors to this site.
Here are some things that have helped me find work to arrange or compose music.
* Post your music here so people can hear (see) your work
* Make sure you fill out your bio information. People are more likely to contact you if you tell them what you have done in the past. Show that you want to work. An empty bio gets nothing in return.
* Do some work for free. I have done a lot of arrangements at no cost so people can play my music. If someone contacts you about one arrangement. Send a couple of others. People like when they get free stuff. I know I do.
* Network with other people. Build contacts with people in your field. You never know when something might turn up. Sometimes I get an e-mail out of the blue about something I have done for someone in the past.
* Be persistent ! Don't give up. Don't expect to get tons of work. It is a slow process. Your perseverance will pay off when you least expect it. There are others who just don't put out effort.
* Enjoy ! If you are not enjoying what you do, others will pick up on this. Over the years I always ask people to listen to my arrangements. They know that I have a genuine passion for writing music.
