I am a native of the Rio Grande Valley.
He attended Edcouch-Elsa High School,
where I studied under Gualberto Besinaiz.
While in the high school band, I earned
numerous awards, including the
All-Valley Band for five consecutive
years and the Texas All-State Symphonic
Band, where I placed 9th chair.
I attended the University of Mississippi
in Oxford, Mississippi, and studied
trumpet under Dr. Charles Gates. At Ole
Miss, I was a member of the Ole Miss
Rebel Marching Band, the Wind Ensemble,
and The Mississippians (jazz band). I
attended Ole Miss from 1988 to 1992 and
completed my Bachelor of Arts in Music
from the University of Texas at
Pan-American in Edinburg in 1995 where I
studied trumpet under Dr. Dean Canty.
I am also an alumni member of the
Concord Blue Devils Drum and Bugle
Corps. I was influenced early on by
great trumpet players such as Chuck
Mangione, Maynard Ferguson, Arturo
Sandoval and Allen Vizzutti.
