Going Home Lyrics
Going home, going home, I'm a going home.
Quiet like, some still day, I'm just going home.
It's not far, just close by, through an open door.
Work all done, care laid by, Going to fear no more.
Mother's there, expecting me, Father's waiting too.
Lots of folk gathered there, All the friends I knew.
Made famous by Nelly Furtado, this pop tune was arranged for my middle school band. This original song "Say it Right" is the property of Geffen Records, 2006.
Chance is an approachable contemporary piece for young players. The melodies are easy enough for young players to hear but there are contemporary elements that they can easily achieve.
The opening is a free modal section that introduces many of the themes that are used throughout. The aleatory elements in the woodwinds and mallets should be played wild and random. Many young players are intimidated at first because they "don't want to play it wrong". Let them have fun with it.
As usual, it moves into a fast section with the percussion making the transition. The first part, while fast, should still have a smooth legato feel.
